It’s easy to say that life has been pretty full on and stressful for a while now. Which is why I haven’t written anything for my blog in months. But I’ve found a miraculous extra 5 minutes of free time (I’m exaggerating, it’s more like 10 minutes) where I don’t feel like sleeping in order to write something. Since I haven’t read any novels recently I’m running low on ideas (never a good start), I decided to write about what I’m looking forward to for the rest of the year in terms of bookish related things such as upcoming book releases or book to movie adaptations. So let’s get started.
Apprentice in Death
The number one thing I’m looking forward to this year is the upcoming release of Apprentice in Death by JD Robb. It is the 43 instalment of the In Death series featuring my favourite ass-kicking lieutenant Eve Dallas and her Irish owner of half the universe Roarke (no last name because he’s cool that way, or is it first name?? LOL IDK) with her diverse group of friends ranging from her partner Detective Delia Peabody to former boxer Priest Chale Lopez. Of course, let’s not forget the bad guy whose ass she will be kicking. What I love about this series is that no matter how many instalments come out none of the criminals or the story plot are similar or the same. There is always something new, shocking and refreshing about each new instalment. Plus, JD Robb also explores Eve’s relationship with the people around her, her closest friends and most importantly her husband Roarke. Marital spats, humorous banter, ass-kicking and the refreshing and inventive cursing are just some of my favourite aspects of this series but let’s go back to Apprentice in Death. It is promising to be a great read if the synopsis and the first chapter are an indication of the full package yet to be released. Read the synopsis below. The book is set to release in hardcover September 6, 2016
The shots came quickly, silently, and with deadly accuracy. Within seconds, three people were dead at Central Park’s ice skating rink. The victims: a talented young skater, a doctor, and a teacher. As random as random can be.
Eve Dallas has seen a lot of killers during her time with the NYPSD, but never one like this. After reviewing security videos, it becomes clear that the victims were killed by a sniper firing a tactical laser rifle, who could have been miles away when the trigger was pulled. And though the locations where the shooter could have set up seem endless, the list of people with that particular skill set is finite: police, military, professional killer.
Eve’s husband, Roarke, has unlimited resources and genius at his disposal. And when his computer program leads Eve to the location of the sniper, she learns a shocking fact: There were two one older, one younger. Someone is being trained by an expert in the science of killing, and they have an agenda. Central Park was just a warm-up. And as another sniper attack shakes the city to its core, Eve realizes that though we’re all shaped by the people around us, there are those who are just born evil.

Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them
Magic + Magical Beasts + Eddie Redmayne = Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Have you seen the trailers? Are you jumping up and down like a little kid about to get a sugar high? If not, well go watch them again until you are.

Sherlock Season 4
Just recently I found out that Season 4 of Sherlock (BBC) is coming out next year. I don’t quite remember if a specific date was mentioned but I most definitely saw ‘2017’ so come hell or high water I’m getting season 4 next year. Also, while The Abominable Bride was great it left quite a few cliff-hangers. Well to me at least. If you have not seen The Abominable Bride I strongly recommend that you do although it does require you to have watched the show (which I also strongly recommend because it is GREAT). Don’t worry there are only 3 episodes per season and there are only 3 completed seasons (as you should have deduced if you read the title of this paragraph).

Uta no prince-sama Season 4
Probably my most anticipated anime release from the anime fall 2016 releases. [Side Note: “Anime Fall 2016” is fall in America eg. it is released in the fall season in the US of A] The Uta no Prince-sama franchise may not be action packed or carry some deep and meaningful or life altering message but it makes me laugh and it makes me happy. The general gist of it is:
Haruka Nanami is an aspiring music composer who entered Saotome Academy in hopes of writing music for her favourite idol (insert name here). Saotome Academy is a school specialising in idols and composers. The school is so prestigious that it is rumoured that every year only one idol and their composer partner gets to debut. On her journey to be a composer , which by the way she has a natural talent for, through the ups and downs Haruka encounters 6 (and later another) diverse, talented and handsome idol students. All of whom vie for her both professionally as a composer and romantically. (Fortunately for Haruka idols are forbidden to fall in love but unfortunate for my ship) These seven idols create the idol group STARISH and Uta no prince-sama and all 3 seasons (soon to be 4) is their journey to achieve idol stardom.

The Four Legendary Kingdoms| Matthew Reilly
Another book release I’m REALLY looking forward to. I really really really REALLY loved the Jack West Jr series and probably everything that Matthew Reilly has published. Matthew Reilly is probably one of my instant buy authors. I don’t have to know what the book is about and I’d still buy it. It could be from a genre that I really don’t like and I’d still buy it…
A RUTHLESS KIDNAPPING
Jack West Jr and his family are living happily on their remote farm when Jack is brutally kidnapped and he awakes in an underground cell to find a masked attacker with a knife charging at him.
THE GREAT GAMES
Jack, it seems, has been chosen-along with a dozen other elite soldiers-to compete in a series of deadly challenges designed to fulfil an ancient ritual.
With the fate of the Earth at stake, he will have to traverse diabolical mazes, fight cruel assassins and face unimaginable horrors that will test him like he has never been tested before.
TO HELL AND BACK
In the process, he will discover the mysterious and powerful group of individuals behind it all: the four legendary kingdoms.
He might also discover that he is not the only hero in this place…

A Monster Calls | October 21, 2016 (US Release)
Out of all the books I’ve read this year A Monster Calls ranks very very high. Actually scratch that it’s probably my favourite read this year. So, I’m really really really looking forward to this movie but while I am looking forward to it I don’t have high expectations. I’m not saying that I expect it to be bad just that I don’t want my, sometimes, impossible expectations to ruin my experience with the movie. So I’ll leave the synopsis of the book here:
The monster showed up after midnight. As they do.
But it isn’t the monster Conor’s been expecting. He’s been expecting the one from his nightmare, the one he’s had nearly every night since his mother started her treatments, the one with the darkness and the wind and the screaming…
This monster is something different, though. Something ancient, something wild. And it wants the most dangerous thing of all from Conor.
It wants the truth.
